  1. With the rapid evolution of portable music many older home s 0 people found this helpful
    Overall Performance

With the rapid evolution of portable music many older home stereos and media center became obsolete. First came the iPod/iPhone docs, but with Apple ditching the 30-pin connector many of them also became obsolete. Within the last 18 months (from when I write this) everything has transitioned to bluetooth and NFC devices. The Nyrius Songo allows you add NFC and bluetooth capability to an existing home stereo or ipod dock - through both optical and auxiliary outputs. What you need to make it work- - Some type of amplifier in the video I am using the Griffin 20 - which I like because it has a bluetooth input and a subwoofer output. - Speakers - or an iPhone/iPod dock that can receive an auxiliary input (most can). Notes- - Is NFC and bluetooth enabled - When I turned on the device for the first time my iPad automatically recognized the Nyrius Songo device - making pairing very easy. - It may go with out saying, but you will need speakers and some sort of amplifiers (or powered speakers) - Has both an auxiliary and optical output. While the auxiliary output is rather common - the optical output is the real bonus, since it can deliver a digital output to your higher end devices. - Nice compact design - roughly 1/2 the size of a deck of cards - Requires external power - it is not rechargeable Final verdict - The Nyrius Songo and NFC Receiver is a great way to use your exisitng stero or amplifier s (or a set of high end speakers) into a fully bluetooth and NFC sound system. There are more expensive integrated bluetooth speakers on the market, but the Nyrius Songo can help you forgo the high-end bluetooth speakers and use your older traditional set-up. 4 1/2 Stars - Verified purchase from Nyrius trusted store. -

  2. This is a very compact Bluetooth receiver and sound quality 0 people found this helpful

This is a very compact Bluetooth receiver and sound quality is excellent! The range is good (across walls and rooms). I've connected this to Polk SoundBar and produces excellent sound. It has both Optical and 3.5 Out. On the -ve side, it is not USB powered and very occasionally hear choppy sound while playing from iPhone. - Verified purchase from Nyrius trusted store. -

Hook up to my iPad was quick and easy as advertised. No so quick with my HP laptop. However after a request for assistance from the supplier and after doing as they suggested by updating my Bluetooth driver the item is working as expected. So far it is doing exactly what I wanted. This distance works at about 30' for me on my iPad before the signal starts to degrade. Note it did not disconnect and after stepping back into range it worked just fine. If you want to update your older high end receiver - buy this product. Mitch - Verified purchase from Nyrius trusted store. -

  4. I bought this product to ensure that I get the highest quali 0 people found this helpful
    Overall Performance

I bought this product to ensure that I get the highest quality bluetooth audio transmission available to my portable speaker systems and even occasionally my home stereo. I tested the Songo Tap using FLAC files on my LG G3 phone connected to my home stereo, as well as Klipsch RoomGroove portable speakers. The aptX connection quality was excellent, I characterize it as about 93% of the clarity/performance of a directly connected Oppo BDP-95 that I normally use. There were some audible limitations in the edges of the sound but they were overall very minor. Listening on portable speaker systems was not revealing enough to even notice the minor limitations I heard on the full stereo setup. The NFC connection was super easy and problem free. Subsequent connections with bluetooth only were also perfectly smooth and pain free. I fully recommend this product for any applications where you want to be able to wirelessly source material from a bluetooth source in near CD quality. The convenience factor makes it worth it for the minor reduction in sound clarity in situations where you need to source wirelessly. If you're a critical listener, you'll of course want to reserve this connection method for times when you need to source via bluetooth, probably via multiple friends phones, and do your primary stereo listening from your dedicated direct connect sources. A note on sound quality: To give you an idea of how minor the sound degradation is, I'd say that if you're playing FLAC files over the Songo Tap on a revealing home stereo, there's a good chance that no casual listener would hear it. By comparison, if someone links up to it and plays a 256 kbps mp3 it will be MUCH more significant of a sound quality impact than the original impact I've been describing. Enhancement: I would like to be able to rename the Songo Tap's Bluetooth ID so that I could have multiples in my house and not have all of them transmitting the same name (wouldn't be able to tell which I was connecting to). - Verified purchase from Nyrius trusted store. -

  5. Great way to stream bluetooth audio through an older stereo 0 people found this helpful
    Overall Performance

Great way to stream bluetooth audio through an older stereo system. Simple to pair with a phone or computer. One improvement would be adding a small on/off switch. I'm not positive, but I think the unit stays on all the time. - Verified purchase from Nyrius trusted store. -
